The latest reports regarding a possible iPad Mini have revealed the tablet will sport an incredibly slender frame and will arrive before Christmas.
The news comes via Japanese blog Macotakara, which claims an unknown source has seen a prototype of the tiny iPad, which will clock in at a wafer-thin 7.2mm –making it slimmer than the Kindle Fire (11.43mm), Google Nexus 7(10.45mm) and Toshiba AT200 (7.7mm).
While being thinner than the Nexus 7, the iPad Mini will apparently match Google's tablet in height, but will be a little wider across the middle.
3G capabilities and Brazilian origin?
The source goes on to reveal that the iPad Mini will come with 3G capabilities, allowing users to get online while on the move and away from Wi-Fi hotspots.
This would give the pint-sized pad a clear advantage over the Wi-Fi only Nexus 7, and with a price point rumoured to be in the region of $250-$350 (around £160-£230), Google may well find itself with another fight on its hands.
Finally the report says that production of the iPad Mini will start in September in Foxconn's Brazil-based plant – a move away from the China-based Foxconn factories which have produced the multitude of previous Apple wares.
There's still no official word from the Cupertino-based firm, and although there's an awful lot of chatter surrounding a possible mini tablet, we've not seen anything concrete yet. Plus, if we're honest, an 'unnamed source' is hardly the most reliable place to be getting next-gen gadget specs - and would anyone really have seen an Apple prototype this early on?
